Avoiding Traps Part Two

31 August 2010

Avoiding Traps part 2 By B. Butler Against more predictably rocky online poker players, it can be more illuminating to bet when you are unsure. The rocky player is going to fold when he doesn’t have it more often than not, and if he has you beat he will check raise. Giving a free card can complete too many hands for these online poker players, and give them room to bet when the river comes a scare regardless. With aggressive players at Everest Poker, they are always looking for spots to raise or bet. If you check behind, they will see that as a sign that they can try to bet on the next street to take it down. If you think you are capable of handling heat from them, and actually want them to be firing into you, then you can check behind and let them fire bullets they might have kept to themselves if you had simply bet out before, giving you credit. A lot of this is about table image, yours and your opponents. If an aggressive player thinks you are tight and not strong in the hand, he will try to come after you. Letting him do that when you do have it is good. If a weak player doesn’t have it, he’s likely not going to put any more money in. Might as well take it from him without giving him the chance to pick up the pot with a free card.
